Happy October! This is one of my favorite months. I love all things fall - football, volleyball, harvest (and combine rides with my family), Halloween, the cool, crisp weather, and all the other great things that go along with this time of year. 

October is also FAFSA season. Seniors and parents - the FAFSA opens October 1st. We will be having our Apply2College Day on Monday, October 18th. During this event, we will have a professional from EducationQuest give a presentation via Zoom that will walk you through the financial aid and FAFSA process. Parents are VERY WELCOME to attend this event, which will probably be in the morning this year due to scheduling conflicts. I will post updates to Apply2College Day, including the schedule and exact time of the presentation, on my Facebook page (facebook.com/titancounseling).

By the time you get this newsletter, our college visit season will be in full swing. It is a very busy season this year; after not being able to have college visits last year, we’re working hard to expose students to various different options. This fall, we will be visiting all three SCC main campuses (Beatrice, Lincoln, and Milford); please encourage your student to visit one and see what they have to offer. Sometimes community colleges and trade schools are overlooked, but I would argue that some of our most successful community members (including members of our faculty and staff!) got some or all of their education at these institutions. I attended a Counselor Visit day at SCC Beatrice and was very impressed with the facilities, programs, and plans that they had for the future.

·    11/11 - ACCUPLACER Test (all 11th grade; seniors who need to retake will be contacted)
